I’m Looking For a Book…

I’m looking for a book that is original, funny and captivating enough to keep me glued to a pile of bound paper or e-reader for hours on end.

I’m looking for a book with characters I only relate to emotionally, not the ones with the same lifestyle, choices and opinions I have.

I’m looking for a book by an author unafraid to try new things, plays with time and space in unique ways and doesn’t send out a billion Tweets, Facebook messages, promotions, and other material to turn readers on.

I’m looking for a book that isn’t a sequel or prequel to a story that’s already been told, one that stands on its own like the novels I read growing up and seldom see in bookstores today.

I’m looking for a book that people are ashamed to read in public solely because they are so invested in the story they don’t want to waste telling friends every plot point.

I’m looking for a book that doesn’t kill off main characters because, in life, the main character seldom dies at the end of a 200-page adventure.

I’m looking for a book I may forget by the next book, read again or burn in my backyard because the experience is unrepeatable.

I’m looking for a book not written in a coffee shop by a fedora-wearing scribbler, but by an author chiseled to the core of life.

I’m looking for a book that is unpretty and gruesome a heartbeat after the lover meet for the first time.

I’m looking for a book that shares beautiful details and dismisses them without a care in the world.

I’m looking for a book that confuses me, makes me smile and paradoxically cry at the same time.

I’m looking for a book that doesn’t need love, sex, murder, or the paranormal to survive.

I’m looking for a book that is awkward in my hand and stands out on my bookshelf.

I’m looking for a book that takes me elsewhere for however long.

I’m looking for a book that is loud at night and quiet at day.

I’m looking for a book that makes me jealous.

I’m looking for a book without genre.

I’m looking for a book.

Do you have one?

  1. Have you ever read “Johnny got his Gun”? Some people just see it as an anti-war novel but for me it’s a fascinating look inside the mind of a hospital patient. The main character’s entire world collapses and leaves him permanently disfigured and much of the novel deal with how he comes to terms with what happened to him and how he learns to communicate with the outside world again. I’m not sure if this will hit every note on your list but it’s an interesting read. What are some books you like?

  2. I’ve been on a sci-fi binge as of late. Prior to that most of the books I read were forced through lit classes (no complaints), so really I’m looking for something outside of my norm.
